Chilling Return: 15 Years Later, Beloved Horror Franchise Unveils Thrilling 3rd Chapter!

img

Ah, another horror movie series is adding a new chapter to its illustrious saga, and this time it’s going to be a trilogy. It’s one of those announcements that make you think, “Should I be excited or just clutching my pearls?” Regardless, the third installment of the *Orphan* franchise has been unveiled, a full 15 years after the debut of the original film. Yes, you heard that right—15 years. Time flies when you’re busy being terrified, I suppose.

According to the latest musings from *Variety*, Isabelle Furhman, who has graced our screens as the delightfully sinister Esther Coleman, will once again return to her iconic role. Because, really, who else could embody someone harboring such dark secrets with that level of charm? This time around, *Orphan 3* will reunite the original creative team behind 2022’s *Orphan: First Kill*. That means writer David Coggeshall is back to sprinkle his magic, while director William Brent Bell will march us down this eerie new path. Can someone please bring them cookies? It feels like a reunion of sorts!

Furthermore, Alex Mace from Gnosis Films will strut his stuff as producer, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick in the executive producer seat. The film is being birthed from the creative womb of Dark Castle Entertainment, and Lionsgate will launch the glittering trailer of this project at the American Film Market. Isn’t that just lovely? Everything sounds so official and yet so... ominous.

“Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the Orphan saga,” declared Dark Castle Entertainment Co-CEO Norman Golightly (and yes, I had to chuckle at the last name). “With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that *Orphan 3* will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise and new fans alike.” Translation: they’re banking on making some serious spooky bucks.

As of now, plot details remain shrouded in mystery thicker than the fog in a cheesy horror flick. What we do know is that Furhman will delight us with yet another tour de force as Esther. The original film showcased a husband and wife, portrayed by Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga, who adopt a troubled nine-year-old girl only to discover that she’s hiding a secret darker than my last Tinder date. With a modest budget of $20 million, the film went on to rake in almost $80 million worldwide. Not too shabby for a little girl with a not-so-little secret!

Fast forward to 2022, *Orphan: First Kill* was unveiled, initially under the working title “Esther.” In this chilling narrative, Esther once again proves that truth is sometimes stranger than fiction as she masquerades as the daughter of a wealthy family while attempting to escape a psychiatric facility. Let's just say, she faces some monumental trials along the way. This film also earned a sweet $44 million at the box office, with a delectable cast including Rossif Sutherland, Hiro Kanagawa, Matthew Finlan, and Julia Stiles.

Furhman herself has previously articulated the unique challenge of revisiting a role from her childhood. “I had to ask myself each scene what a ten-year-old Isabelle would have thought of this scene,” she shared. “It has to be believable that this is Esther before we already met her.” Now, that’s some deep introspection for a horror flick! But let’s be honest, it’s a perfect concoction of nostalgia and spine-tingling thrills.

While *Orphan 3* doesn’t have a release date yet, I have no doubt it will be haunting our screen sooner rather than later—because let’s face it, who doesn’t love a little horror in their lives? Grab your popcorn and prepare to hold your breath!
