Strictly's Shocking Viewer Drop: What's Behind the Scandalous Season?
The dazzling world of Strictly Come Dancing made its grand return to BBC this past weekend, welcoming a fresh line-up of 15 celebrities who were eager to discover their professional dance partners. While the spotlight was not on live performances yet, fans got to delve into the personalities of this year's featured stars. True to form, viewers were treated to glitz and glamour, highlighted by a stunning group routine from the professional dancers—a special number dedicated to returning dancer Amy Dowden.
The judging panel welcomed back the ever-controversial Craig Revel Horwood, who showcased a striking new look. Chris McCausland quickly became a fan-favourite with his sharp wit, while hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman stirred the pot when they sidestepped discussions about the ongoing investigation concerning the conduct of some of the professional dancers. This investigation was prompted by Amanda Abbington's complaints against dancer Giovanni Pernice, who has since exited the show, vehemently denying any allegations of abusive behaviour.

According to the latest overnight ratings, the launch show drew in 5.5 million viewers, a decline from last year’s premiere, which was watched by 6.2 million. In fact, the year before that had nearly 7 million tuning in. The dip in ratings sparked a variety of reactions from fans online—some were not surprised, while others defended the continuing popularity of the show. One fan noted, "I won’t even lie. I didn’t even know it had started yesterday. Wow," and another remarked, "I watched half an hour; it was truly nauseating!"
