Unveiling the Best and Worst Metro Systems in Europe: Where Does Your City Rank?

Have you ever wondered which European cities boast the most efficient, convenient, and user-friendly metro networks? A recent study by luggage storage company Bounce has delved into the depths of Europe's capital city metro systems, uncovering some surprising findings.

Oslo: The Crown Jewel of Metro Systems

Topping the rankings with an impressive index score of 8.06 out of 10 is Oslo, Norway. The city's metro system, known as the Oslo T-Bane, boasts 101 stations spanning 85km of track, seamlessly connecting all 15 boroughs and extending into neighboring Baerum.

Sofia: A Rising Star in Metro Excellence

Bulgaria's capital, Sofia, takes the second spot with an index score of 7.64 out of 10. Its metro system, the youngest in the study, has 47 stations along 52km of track, including a convenient stop at Sofia Airport.

Athens: A Gateway to Greece's Islands

Greece's capital, Athens, secures third place with a score of 7.29 out of 10. The Athens Metro provides a direct link to the airport, offering travelers a quick and affordable way to reach the city center. It also connects to the bustling Piraeus port, a gateway to the enchanting Greek islands.

The Rest of the Top 10

Rounding out the top 10 are Madrid, Warsaw, London, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Bucharest, and Prague, all receiving scores above 6.5 out of 10.

Budapest: A Disappointing Metro Experience

Despite Budapest's many charms, its metro system has been deemed the worst in Europe, earning a dismal index score of just 3.13 out of 10. While relatively small, with 48 stations across 39km of track, it suffers from overcrowding and a staggering number of negative online reactions.
