Unveiled: The Shocking Decay of Pontins Holiday Camp

A former Pontins holidaymaker has ignited a wave of nostalgia and calls for action to revive the legendary British holiday destination after sharing some poignant new photographs of the once vibrant camp. The images highlight the current state of Pontins in Prestatyn, which resembles a deserted landscape, characterized by overgrown grass and a general feeling of abandonment.

Once a bustling hub of family fun in Denbighshire, Wales, the site was shuttered by its owners, Britannia Hotels, last November. The once sprightly lawns are now largely overtaken by weeds, serving as a stark reminder of what the location used to be. Britannia, which acquired the entire Pontins holiday park chain in 2011, has not yet disclosed any future plans for the now-closed site, which was part of a recent wave of closures that also affected Camber Sands in East Sussex and Southport's holiday park.

The campaign to breathe new life into Prestatyn is being championed by former Vale of Clwyd MP Dr. James Davies. The urgency for revival gained momentum over the weekend when a visitor, Amy from Bangor, posted heart-wrenching photos capturing the site’s dilapidated state. The decision to revisit Pontins stemmed from her stay at a nearby camping ground, where fond memories of happier times came flooding back.

Amy, who has visited the Pontins camp many times throughout her life, couldn't help but feel nostalgic as she gazed upon the now-uninviting camp site. She expressed her sorrow, stating it was "sad" to see a place that once brought joy to many families reduced to a scene of decay. "It’s just so sad seeing it totally left and overgrown. We had to come and take a look while staying at Robin Hood. My fondest memories!" she shared.

Reflecting on her past experiences, Amy told North Wales Live, "This place holds numerous happy memories not only for me but for countless families. To witness it being left to rot and overrun is truly horrendous. I sincerely hope that another holiday camp will take over and that Britannia will do the right thing." She reminisced about how her
